According to the United Nations University’s Global e-waste monitor, around 50 million metric tonnes of electronic products are discarded every year. Around the world, nations large and small are experiencing challenges in handling this rapidly growing waste stream in a clean and robust manner. E-waste is often mixed with municipal waste and landfilled or incinerated.
Furthermore, global materials production of electronics and other products is dependent upon mining and hydrocarbon extraction, leading to negative human rights and environmental impacts.

Nikhil R. Gupta is the Founder & CEO of Determinant Materials™. A chemical engineer by education and training, Nikhil has extensive experience across the energy/resources/environment nexus. A passionate supporter of technology, sustainability, and human progress, Nikhil has traveled the world learning how societies operate and how people live, and their relationship with the natural environment. He is a graduate of the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts and has worked for companies such as United Technologies, Royal Dutch Shell, and Nexant Inc., among others. Nikhil is a proud environmentalist and technologist and is excited to utilize the tools of business and entrepreneurship to help usher forth a circular and more secure economy.
